Edinburgh Bins is a free iPhone app that tells you which bins go out and when, for any address in Edinburgh. Enter your postcode, pick your address from the list and the app builds your personal collection calendar straight away - no account, no sign-up and no digging through the council website. It works across Leith, Portobello, Morningside, Corstorphine, Gorgie, Stockbridge, the Old and New Towns and the rest of the city.
Open the app and your next collection is right there - Today, Tomorrow, or the day it’s due - with exactly which bins are going out. Below that is your full five-week collection calendar, so planning around holidays is easy.
Get a reminder notification the day before and on the morning of collection. Home screen widgets show your next bins without opening the app, and the Apple Watch app puts them right on your wrist.
Check any address in Edinburgh, not just your own - handy for a flat you’re moving into, a relative or a rental you manage. Mark your bins as out and climb your street’s leaderboard to become Bin King. The app was covered by Edinburgh Live and The Edinburgh Minute when it launched.
All collection dates come from the City of Edinburgh Council. The app itself is independent - I design, build and look after it myself here in Fife, alongside my other bin collection apps for councils across Scotland. If a date ever looks wrong, get in touch from inside the app and I’ll get it fixed.
Download Edinburgh Bins, enter your postcode and choose your address. Your upcoming collections appear straight away, with each bin type shown clearly so you know what goes out next.
