I’m Paul - a solo, senior developer based in Fife, working with clients right across Scotland and beyond. For twenty-six years I’ve written code, focusing on three things and resisting the urge to dabble in everything else.
Alongside client work, I run my own apps on the App Store. I answer their support emails, read their reviews and fix what breaks - and I’ve sold some along the way. Owning products end to end changes how I build for anyone else: I’m thinking about the person using it in two years, not just launch day.
When the tools I need don’t exist, I make them. Bothy, the local dev environment I use every day, is one of those. I lean on agentic coding tools where they genuinely speed things up - scaffolding, refactors, tests, the repetitive stuff - so your budget goes on the parts that need judgement. Every change still gets reviewed, understood and owned by me before it ships.
My bin collection apps have even made the local news, with Fife Bins featured in the Dunfermline Press and Central Fife Times, and Edinburgh Bins in Edinburgh Live and The Edinburgh Minute.
Aged 12 - where it all began.
Picked it up in the early days and never put it down - theming, breaking and fixing sites back when “custom” meant editing functions.php at 2am.
I’d already spent a year building stores on Jigoshop, the plugin WooCommerce grew out of - so I was shipping Woo sites from day one, and already knew how payments, tax and stock behave under load.
Set up as an independent developer, taking on the work agencies needed senior hands they could trust with.
Started shipping Swift and SwiftUI apps to the App Store - some as companions to client platforms, most as products of my own.
Taking on the complex, interesting builds - the ones that need someone senior who’ll see them through.
I build on the platform’s own foundations, so your site survives its updates instead of fighting them.
If something’s a bad idea, you’ll hear it from me early - not discover it after launch.
I don’t disappear at handover. The person who built it is the person who supports it.
“Eight of every ten agencies in Edinburgh send their WordPress work to him. There’s a reason for that.”
Tell me what you’re building. I’ll tell you straight whether I’m the right person for it.
